Jr. Vikings 33-0

Saturday 29, 2012

We had a great game today. All of the boys on our team did such a great job! I cannot begin to tell you how proud I am of my son. We have had terrible struggles with school work, simply not wanting to do it, flipping his pencil, dropping it in the floor, chewing the eraser off, ect. You name it he does it. This was all before diet changes were made. Also getting him dressed in the morning was a nightmare, Ethan crying, I would cry. Just getting so upset because these tasks were so easy to me to get accomplished, but for Ethan these are monumental tasks. I am learning to be more patient with him and try not to get so frustrated. I have to admit it is getting easier. This diet is a God send. Our family functions so much better because of it.

Do not misunderstand me, Ethan does take medication for his ADHD, but I really can't say that this is what is helping him. I know the medicine helps him to focus at school, which is why we give it to him, but the medicine is only good for about eight hours then it is out of his system. We do not give him his medicine on weekends. So you be the judge, Ethan's behavior has improved 85% on the weekends. He is still a hyper seven year old, just a little calmer and much happier!

100 Spelling Test

Friday 28, 2012

Today turned out to be a wonderful day! Ethan started out having a hard time spelling his words for me for his spelling test today. I thought this was just great, he is surely going to fail his test. Well as you can see from the test above he did get that 100. So we will be going to Knoxville in October to see his favorite thing WWE. Look at how next his handwriting is. I could not be more proud of him.
Breakfast was cereal again, a ham sandwich for lunch with several healthy snacks. Supper was his favorite, fettuccine alfredo.

Shout Out

It's been a few days since my last post, but everything is going really good. I have to brag on Ethan he got a shot out over the intercom from his teacher on Friday for having such a great week at school!!!! He also got a 90 on his spelling test! were was spelled wrer. I think he got a little confused.

Monday the 24th

was a pretty good day. Ethan went to his after school care after school today so he did not get home until 5:30. He did not want to do his homework right away so a struggle ensued! I think this is typical seven year old behavior though and did not worry. When we got to doing homework he struggled to focus, but we conquered it finally. After homework was complete he was wonderful. We had a great night. Breakfast was healthy version cocoa krispies, lunch was a turkey sandwich with chips and cashews and a slice of healthy caramel apple cake. Dinner was baked boneless pork chops, mashed potatoes and fried squash the Ethan did not want:)

Today Ethan had a wonderful day at school. he had football practice after school, but he did get his homework done right away with his dad with no qualms! After practice we had Wendy's hamburgers (which he can have) and natural cut fries. lunch was the same as yesterday. Today was a good day!!

Wednesday 26, 2012

Another great day! There was no practice so he got to stay at after school care and play until 5:30. He was in a great mood all day. I had a jewelry party and he played with another little boy and we had no problems! Breakfast was the healthy version cocoa krispies, Lunch was pretty much the same as the previous lunches. I do mix up the snacks for him. And supper well....could have been better.

Also I have to say that Ethan is getting up in the mornings and getting ready for school with no arguments. Before it was all we could do to get him up and going. Now you only have to tell him twice:)

A Little Less Rowdy

Today was much better!

Since today was not a school day I did not give Ethan his ADHD medication. Even though he was still a little hyper he was much better behaved. We went for a walk around the neighborhood with Averie (Ethan's ten month old beautiful sister) he done really well, he did run a lot but what seven year old doesn't. Nathan and Ethan did pass his new football in the back yard after dinner. I did take him to Wal-Mart to get the football for such wonderful behavior and grades this past week. Not much to report. He did have a biscuit for breakfast, lunch was a meatball sub and dinner was fettuccine. Also a snack of pears after dinner. We have our fingers crossed that bad behavior is being phased out! For the most part that is.

Feingold Diet

I want to log the first few days of my seven year old son Ethan's diet. Ethan has been diagnosed with ADHD, and for those parents that do not have an ADHD child you have no idea how challenging it can really be. I want to give thanks to God and the wonderful, caring teachers at Avoca Elementary school. I did not want to just put Ethan on some medication to take him down a notch, I wanted to make sure we were doing everything we could as a family to ensure Ethan was healthy and happy not medicated. So after searching for awhile I finally came across this diet that eliminates all the artificial colors and flavors and also eliminates all preservatives from foods. We have been shopping and it is really easy to find good tasting foods. My husband and I are also on the diet as well. It really is simple when you think about it. Why would anyone want to put that stuff in their system anyway. I found out that the color dyes in food are made from crude oil! And vanillin found in artificially flavored foods is made from pulp from paper mills! No wonder there is so much disease and cancer in the world if we are all consuming this stuff.

Ethan has been on the diet a full week and I can honestly say that I can see a huge difference. He is calmer, happier and easier to get out of bed in the mornings. He got a shout out from his teacher at school yesterday for being so good all week! I am so proud of him. Anything that helps him be the child I know he wanted to be is great.

I am going to be posting everyday to try and document his journey. Please say prayers for us.

Going to sign up with blogging for books. I hope to get some good reads to review This is right up my alley. If you happened to cross my path welcome! I am new to the blogging scene so please be patient with me. I am a mother of two wonderful children, Ethan is my fast paced six year old sugar bean who loves playing t-ball and football. Averie is my beautiful five month old smiling ray of sunshine. I was a full time working mother and decided that I am missing the finer things in life; my wonderful children growing up way to fast before my eyes. So I am taking a step back from working so much and going to  enjoy playing a little! My passion is collecting old books and reading all books. I have recently taken up crocheting and knitting. If you wanna unwind I highly recommend. i also love photography. I am no expert, just love taking pictures of my children of course and old cities such as Charleston and Savannah. If any of these things interest you or you wanna share something please let me know. I will try to post some pics later when I get more organized if that's possible!
